So this is a crisis now. Quite a few sites have reported these horrific shirts and DC had to go into apologize mode.
The best part is the article itself mentions that the shirts aren’t so bad taken out of context-that is the context these idiots put them in the first place. Looking at the many comments people are saying on certains boards. It’s the objection of the SM/WW being a couple, that he dumped Louis Lane for a hotter girl, that’s just about sex and clearly they aren’t in a committed relationship.

My favorite part was the attempt to compare this vile shirt to the vintage “Pick up artist” Superman/Lois shirts. The Supes/Lois shirts are tongue in cheek play on words. Not to mention….Superman picking up Lois has always been a sort of spin on the trope of the big, strong man picking up the woman and carrying her because Lois is never passive about it. Most of the time, she’s joking about him being her “personal first class service” and it’s played like he’s carrying her around because she thinks it’s a funny form of foreplay.

The saddest part about this is that this isn’t just character assassination for HER…it’s character assassination of HIM.
The entire relationship is structured on the idea that they are the only ones “good enough” for each other and no matter how you spin it (and oh Charles Soule is working hard to spin it) it’s just disgusting. It’s just a disgusting view of relationships and sex and love. Ultimately, it’s still driven by this patriarchal idea that Wonder Woman is the hottest woman and therefore must be acquired by the strongest man. And it’s a bastardization of Superman—-one of the few men in the comics universe that never EVER viewed women this way. It’s just awful.

Superman as fratboy with Wonder Woman as just a notch on the fortress key. (I’m repeating myself from my Amazon comment and Twitter, but seriously all that’s missing is a balloon reading “Duuuuude!!”)

In other words, stupid shit from people reading way too much into gag shirts.
The other thing is, once again, women deny that they’re not trying to take anything away and they just want variety for them. Yet a quick search shows a wide range of super hero girl shirts for all tastes. The only objection they could have is that this exists at al,l and how dare a shirt exist that doesn’t jive with their take on the characters. Especially female characters that these girls feel some kind of ownership over for some reason.

“We’re not trying to take anything away, we just want more diversity. Unless we don’t like it, then we’ll shriek about sexism until you cancel the issue/fire the artist/change the merchandise. Think about how much money you’ll get after you cater to us though, most of us will probably buy the first issue before we forget about it for the next moral outrage of the week.”
